“This is so you – New Life” – Part 3

June 24th, 2007

Dwain Tissell

1Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins.

2You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. 3All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else.

4But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, 5that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) 6For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. 7So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus.

8God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.  Ephesians 2:1-9 (NLT)

w  A Mortal Sin: Dead at the wheel. v. 1-3

w God’s GPS: God takes over the drivers seat. v. 4-8a

w Satellite Rescue: Your salvation is a gift not a reward. v. 8b-9

10For we are God’s masterpiece. Ephesians 2:10a (NLT)

10For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.  Ephesians 2:10 (ESV)

1.  DRIVE: REALIZE THAT YOUR WHOLE LIFE IS A GIFT.

Luke 7:36-50

47“I tell you, her sins—and they are many—have been forgiven, so she has shown me much love. But a person who is forgiven little shows only little love.” Luke 7:47 (NLT)

which God prepared beforehand

2.  CLIMAX:  YIELD YOURSELF TO GOD’S PURPOSE.

14He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds. Titus 2:14 (NLT)

that we should walk in them.

3.  JOURNEY:  MAKE YOUR DAY ABOUT THE NEXT STRETCH.

22That is why the LORD, who redeemed Abraham, says to the people of Israel,

“My people will no longer be ashamed

or turn pale with fear.

23For when they see their many children

and all the blessings I have given them,

they will recognize the holiness of the Holy One of Israel.

They will stand in awe of the God of Jacob.

24Then the wayward will gain understanding,

and complainers will accept instruction. Isaiah 29:22-24 (NLT)
