Galatians 2:1-5

1 Then after fourteen years, I went up again to Jerusalem, this time with Barnabas.  I took Titus along also.   2 I went in response to a revelation and, meeting privately with those esteemed as leaders, I set before them the gospel that I preach among the Gentiles.  I wanted to be sure I was not running and had not been running my race in vain.   3 Yet not even Titus, who was with me, was compelled to be circumcised, even though he was a Greek.   4 This matter arose because some false believers had infiltrated our ranks to spy on the freedom we have in Christ Jesus and to make us slaves.   5 We did not give in to them for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel might remain with you.

LACK OF CLARITY ABOUT–AND EXPERIENCE OF–GOD’S GRACE IS A REAL PROBLEM.

Luke 15:20-32

20 So he got up and went to his father.
“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.
21 “The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’
22 “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet.  23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate.  24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.
25 “Meanwhile, the older son was in the field. When he came near the house, he heard music and dancing.  26 So he called one of the servants and asked him what was going on.  27 ‘Your brother has come,’ he replied, ‘and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.’
28 “The older brother became angry and refused to go in. So his father went out and pleaded with him.  29 But he answered his father, ‘Look! All these years I’ve been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends.  30 But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!’
31 “ ‘My son,’ the father said, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours.  32 But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ ”

GOD OFFERS HIS GRACE TO THOSE RETURNING FROM BEING LOST IN THEIR REBELLION.

GOD ALSO OFFERS HIS GRACE TO THOSE WHO RECOGNIZE THEY ARE LOST IN THEIR GOODNESS.

Galatians 2:6-10

16 As for those who were held in high esteem—whatever they were makes no difference to me; God does not show favoritism—they added nothing to my message.  7 On the contrary, they saw that I had been entrusted with the task of preaching the gospel to the Gentiles, just as Peter had been to the Jews.  8 For God, who was at work in Peter as an apostle to the Jews, was also at work in me as an apostle to the Gentiles.  9 James, Cephas and John, those esteemed as pillars, gave me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship when they recognized the grace given to me. They agreed that we should go to the Gentiles, and they to the Jews.
10 All they asked was that we should continue to remember the poor, the very thing I had been eager to do all along.

GOD’S GRACE WORKS FIRST, THEN YOUR GOOD WORKS GENUINELY GOOD.

When we stop looking at ourselves and allow Christ's grace to fill us up, the natural outpouring is serving others.
