What is Trinity and where is it in the Bible?
1. God is three persons
2. Each person is fully God
John 17:3
Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
John 8:58
"Very truly I tell you," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am!"
Exodus 3:14, 15
14 God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: 'I AM has sent me to you.' ... "This is my name forever, the name you shall call me from generation to generation."
2 Corinthians 3:17-18
17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
3. There is one God
Deuteronomy 4:6
Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.
Genesis 3:5
"For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.
What God is not:
1. Polytheism
2. Modalism
3. Arianism
Acts 19:26
"...gods made by human hands are no gods at all."
What difference does Trinity make?
Matthew 3:13-17
13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. 14 But John tried to deter him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?" 15Jesus replied, "Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this fulfill all righteousness." Then John consented.
16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."
1. Dramatic: learn anew to be surprised by God
2. Compelling: learn from Trinity to live in humility
3. Community: learn from him to love
1 John 4:8
Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
