1.  Four comments in the Genesis.

a.  There is no conflict between Christianity and SCIENCE ITSELF

b.  There is total conflict between Christianity and NATURALISM.

c.   The Bible in general was written to reveal the God of creation, not to be a  SCIENTIFIC TEXTBOOK.

d.   One’s view of the date of creation should not be a LITMUS TEST FOR CHRISTIAN FAITHFULNESS.

2. What the Bible says about creation

a.  The Creator is the main character.

Genesis 1:1-2

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.  2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

“Nature is the art of God.”  Dante Alighieri

b.  He did it out of NOTHING.

Hebrews 11:3

By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

3.  The Story of Creation in the last 100 yrs.

A  Really Big Bang
“The universe was filled with light…it was light that then formed the dominant constituent of the universe.”

Stephen Weinberg,  “The First Three Minutes:  A Modern View of the Origin of the Universe.”

Genesis 1:3

And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.

4.  What difference does the doctrine of creation make in your life?

 a.  Enjoy the LOVE.

Psalm 25:6

Remember, LORD, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old.

b.   Live like you KNOW WHERE YOU CAME FROM.

Ephesians 2:10

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

“There are no ordinary people. You have never met a mere mortal.”

C.S. Lewis, “The Weight of Glory”
