Pulay

Reach out and change the world!
Pulay (pronounced poo-LIE) is an indigenous Mayan village in the war-torn mountains of Guatemala. The village suffers from severe poverty and chronic malnutrition, yet has hope for future development. In 2008 our Eastridge family began a partnership with Pulay through Food for the Hungry, to develop the economy and improve living conditions for the families living there... to ultimately break the cycle of poverty in the village.
We're thrilled to be able to serve this community by raising funds and supplies to help them through their development projects, and sponsoring children. Two teams have already traveled to Pulay to work on school construction, water purification, and nutrition. We expect this partnership over the next few years to transform both Eastridge and Pulay!
Current fundraiser!
We are selling coffee to raise funds to support our April missions trip to Pulay! Funds will provide building materials for a much-needed kitchen for the village's primary school.
We have a medium and dark roast in both ground and whole bean -- available for purchase in the lobby on Sunday mornings. Thanks to Rick Applegate of Mt. Hood Roasters!
2011 Pulay project!
So many children in Pulay don't receive regular, nutritious meals at home--their diet consists mostly of corn and beans. Malnutrition is one of the greatest enemies the village faces, so the village leaders have asked for our help with the construction of a kitchen for their primary level school. This kitchen will allow them to ensure kids have access to a healthy, balanced meal at least once a day.
The funds we raise for this project will help provide building materials, the hiring of a mason to oversee the project, and safe passage for our missions team as they head to Guatemala this April 9-17, 2011. Our team will work alongside the village with the construction process, work with the children on nutritional topics, and pray with the community for the continuing work of God through Eastridge, Food for the Hungry and Pulay!

Short-term missions trips
Each year we plan two week-long trips to Pulay to work on improvement projects and spend time with the children. It's a blast! Last year we worked with them on a new school building, and helped improve hygiene habits, like toothbrushing and handwashing.

Our goal for 2010 was to provide the entire village with purified water.
