Local Service Opportunities

SYW Habitat for Humanity 1

 

We believe very strongly in serving our world by helping the people in our community. There are wonderful organizations throughout the Portland area that seek to serve all types of people with all types of struggles.  For information on how to get involved email .  The focus projects for local outreach in 2008 and 2009 are the following:

 

Pregnancy Resource Center

Join others at Eastridge by donating time, supplies and clothing to this awesome Portland ministry. For more details on what their needs are go to www.portlandprc.org

 

Transitional Youth

Hook up with a group from Eastridge who hangs out with homeless teens one Friday a month or contact them to find out about more opportunities.  Go to www.transitionalyouth.org.

 

Father's Heart Street Ministry

Caring for the homeless in Clackamas.  Check out the Father's Heart Street Ministry Wishlist to see how you can give to this ministry.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Clackamas County

Make a commitment to mentor a child of a single/incarcerated parent.  For more info go to www.bbbsnorthwest.org

Blanchet House

Feeding the homeless downtown Portland.  Hook up with a group that is going this month... or call and schedule a time to volunteer.

Meals on Wheels

Oregon City, Gladstone and Milwaukie always need volunteers to deliver meals to seniors.

North Clackamas School District

Meeting the needs of kids in the district.. providing food, clothing, school supplies, housing, financial support.  For more info go to www.nclack.k12.or.us.

Prison Fellowship Ministries

Provide support to inmates prior to there release by writing.  After their release- become a mentor, helping them find housing, jobs and re-enter society.

Ronald McDonald House

Work with others to provide food for families with seriously ill children being treated at Doernbecher's Children's Hospital.
