Gordie Pearson
I grew up on a Family Farm in a close family of seven including three sisters and one brother and my hard working deeply devoted Christian Father and Mother. As a young child I made a clear and definitive decision to give my life to Christ which to this very day has impacted virtually every decision since! After my 12 years of school in the Canby area I spent my college years in the North-Chicago suburbs. After College I worked a variety of business positions in Portland and served in multitudes of roles in my home church in Canby in a lay capacity. In February of 1981 I took on my first Pastoral role at my home church as Associate Pastor serving eight years in a multitude of positions mostly relating in some way to Pastoral Care. Following that role I worked again in the business world as an office manager in Tualatin, OR for 13 years.
Sherrill and I came to Eastridge for our first visit in the first year Eastridge began ministry in 1994. We fell in love with the people and the theme, “A place to Belong… A place to Become”. This was from that point forward our church home for Sherrill and I and our four wonderful children. I served in various capacities of ministry as a layman including teaching children and several years on the Leadership Team. In July of 2001 I was invited by Pastor Dwain and staff and the Leadership Team to join the Pastoral Staff at Eastridge full time. The Lord has been so good in giving me this venue to love and encourage the wonderful people of Eastridge Church since July of 2001 in a Pastoral capacity. I never cease to be amazed at the multitudes of avenues God has blessed me with His wisdom and guidance to encourage and care for the individuals and families at Eastridge by His grace and provision.
I am so blessed to have the wife I have who is always so supportive of my role as Pastor at Eastridge. Sherrill is professionally a Neo-Natal Intensive Care RN for some 28 years at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital and a wonderful helpmate in the truest sense of the word!
My four children all love the Lord for which I am so happy. Two are married to terrific spouses and one works
in Southern California at a Christian University recruiting students internationally. Now three have their University degrees and my youngest daughter is beginning her role as a University Student this Fall at the University of Oregon. Sherrill and I have one granddaughter, Annie who is without question the delight of our lives and if you have a few minutes would love to expound upon her virtues or those of any of our kids for that matter!
Two verses that frame my life in both ministry and family are as follows:
“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
Do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you. I will help you.
I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.”
“So encourage each other and build one another up.”
